How to Build a Minecraft Castle

Welcome to our latest article. How to build a Minecraft castle. This article aims to provide you with everything you need to know on how to plan out and build your very own Minecraft castle. Enjoy!

Minecraft Castle: Theming and Inspiration

One thing to consider for your Minecraft castle is where you are getting inspiration for your castle. For example, are you building based on a medieval European/English castle? This would likely be a large stone fort on a large hill, with things like stables, watchtowers, etc. Or is it a Chinese/Japanese-style castle? This would likely be a large tower with slanting roofs, cherry blossom wood, and a lot of bright colors.

Whichever you choose to do, you should do some research to find out exactly what it consists of and how to re-create that in Minecraft effectively.

Planning And Preperation

Whilst planning a large build, such as a castle, many people may want to just get straight into it and start building, but the planning phase is as important as any. First, you need to find an area, the area you choose will likely depend on how realistic you want the castle to seem. If you want it to be a quite realistic Minecraft castle, you will likely want to place it high-up, but also near water, forests, etc. If you aren’t bothered about real-life themes, you may just want a large mountain to build a fort, or a desert to construct an Egyptian-themed castle.

Next, you need to plan out the blueprint of your castle, including the rooms, floors, etc. If you do not plan these out well or correctly, it may cause some issues such as: not having enough room to fit everything you wanted, or having a lot of empty space left over that you cannot fill. This could end up being an issue later on, leading to you needing to re-design and/or even re-build some parts of your castle. You could draw out the blueprints on some sort of computer software, or just with pen and paper.

Another thing that you should plan is the lore surrounding your castle. Not everyone will want their castle to have lore, but it can be a fun thing to create and keep you motivated to build the castle. Lore around a castle could consist of: who built it, why they built it, when did they build it, etc. It can be a very interesting thing and forces the creative process to work in ways you didn’t think about.

How To Build A Minecraft Castle: Exterior

When building a castle, it’s important to make sure that the walls don’t just all become a stone brick pile. You need to add some interesting features to the outside walls. One good idea is to add some cracked stone bricks and even use stairs to create holes in the walls. This may seem strange but it can make your castle seem like it’s ancient and withstood many battles. Another thing you can do is use different types of stone to create a gradient on the wall. This adds to it a lot and shows that you can create well-thought-out builds, rather than just repeating the same thing many times. Along the walls, you could also add some watchtowers to break up the wall a little bit, and also even put some snow golems or villagers into the watchtowers to create the illusion that the castle is well-defended and populated. You could also add some windows but try using iron bars rather than glass so it still fits the medieval/ancient theme.

Another idea to make the outside more interesting is to make a grand entrance at the gate. You could have a supported staircase leading up to the castle, with lanterns lining the fences. It could then open into a huge gate, acting as a grand entrance to your castle. You could decorate this entrance with lighting (such as lanterns and torches), wood accents to compliment the stone wall, etc.

Building The Castle Interior

In the various rooms of your castle, you will need to create furniture that looks grand and well-kept (unless you are making a ruin), that still fits with the time period of your castle. One room you may want is a throne room, which could have huge pillars holding up the ceiling, and a huge golden throne at the end of a long hallway. This room may look slightly bland, so you may want to add some decorations, such as a bright, patterned carpet or a large stained glass window. Another important room may be a feasting hall, that would boast large tables and an area at the back to cook all of your foods, along with brewing stands to create drinks for your guests. The bedrooms could have huge beds and large windows to look out at the citizens and inhabitants of the castle, along with ornate furnishings fit for a king!

Complimentary Buildings For Your Minecraft Castle

Complimentary buildings are other buildings that are necessary for the function of your castle and could be located in and/or around your castle.

One idea for this is a forge that you can use to create weapons. Although this may be largely for aesthetics, you could also make it very practical by adding things such as: a dripstone lava generator in the basement, anvils, blast furnaces, etc.

Another building that may be useful is a stable. Horses are extremely useful, especially early-game before you get elytra, but they also add a lot to the castle as a whole. You could also have a nearby area for livestock, which could be used for: leather, wool, food, etc.

The final one I will recommend is a dock. This is a good idea as it makes out that you are trading with other kingdoms, and also can allow you to build using strange materials (e.g. wood from the nether), as it could be from trading. You could add many things such as: a crane, boats/ships, etc.

Conclusion

In conclusion, all steps are important towards the finished product, and it’s important to get a good balance of all the steps that go into making a great castle. You should try to avoid making things too bland or repetitive (for example, don’t use the same material for the floor and ceiling) in order to keep it looking special for a long time, rather than it getting boring.
